The session at a glance
The new Government wants to use the wealth of data accessible to the public sector to help drive better policy making. However, they will find Government departments at different levels of capability in the use of data, particularly once data gets in the hands of people taking decisions. We'll use this session to share ideas and examples about how user-centred designers and the skills they bring can help people inside Government take decisions or explore ideas with data.
- Why is data still not fully embedded in decision-making in Government, and could UCD be part of the solution?
- Where in Government are civil servants at different levels (and Ministers) empowered to use all kinds of administrative and service/outcome data, and what are the conditions that enable that?
- What is the best way of bringing user centred design into a data service in Government? Where is design less useful?
